Layne is a native of northern Idaho who ran his own logging business for about 25 years before semi-retiring a few years ago in order to be able to enjoy the outdoors and pursue hobbies he had set aside for many years due to the demands of running a logging company. He lives on his ranch near the Montana border with his wife Delores where he still runs a small herd of cattle. Even when Layne was working full time he was a dedicated elk hunter but now that he has more time he is also a houndsman, trapper and guide. Layne is as tough as the mountains he logged in for so many years, he had a yarder logging outfit and if you don’t know they only use yarders for logging ground that is too steep for conventional logging methods of skidding trees with a ground machine so he worked in the very roughest sections of this area. Don’t let that fool you though, he may be tough but he is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet, always willing to stop and visit with a fellow hunter or a neighbor he is the kind of guy who helps disadvantaged hunters just because he can and has helped us out in many ways over the past few years. Just as with his logging career he doesn’t want to guide full time anymore either but if and when we need a hand he has stepped up to save the day on more than one occasion. We are thankful for his help and hold him in very high regard.
